Climate Justice Lives Here! Festival on Sept 28, 2024

A powerful, joyful, art-filled celebration that marks the 10th anniversary of the People’s Climate March, where UPROSE played a pivotal role as a lead organizer. Since then, we’ve continued to lead the fight for climate justice, with frontline communities at the forefront of transformative solutions. UPROSE focuses on counter-crisis narratives, showcasing transformative community-driven solutions—from doubling open space to repurposing industrial zones to tackle both the climate and economic crises.

The festival, hosted by UPROSE and Councilmember Alexa Avilés, and emceed by acclaimed journalist and Sunset Park native Jeanine Ramirez, featured several exciting highlights:

Music and Cultural Performances: Live performances by M1, Flaco Navaja, Taína Asili, BombaYo, and Sonido Costeño filled the event with powerful music that honored the strength of frontline communities, rooted in resistance and resilience.

Learning Circles: Interactive discussions on critical climate justice issues, including Just Transition, Fast Fashion, Wellness, and decarbonizing Sunset Park, empowered residents with knowledge on food sovereignty, sustainable transit, and climate resilience.

Community-Driven Art & Activities: Attendees engaged in art-making and explored resource tables that provided tools and information for building a greener, more sustainable future.

Food Bazaar: A lively food market featuring local vendors celebrated the rich cultural diversity of Brooklyn’s communities, offering a taste of various heritages
